Last week, I had the incredible honor of speaking at an event hosted by RMIT University, titled “Flourishing Translation-Interpretation Employability: Shaping Professionalism in Interdisciplines.”
As a PhD Candidate in TESOL, I’m passionate about bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world application, and this event provided the perfect platform to share insights and learn from an engaged audience.

✨ Reflections on the Event
The session revolved around the pressing question: How can we better equip professionals in translation and interpretation to thrive in an increasingly interdisciplinary and globalized world? To address this, we explored:
🔹 The Power of Interdisciplinary Skills: I discussed the importance of blending linguistic expertise with cultural competence, technological literacy, and adaptive thinking to meet the demands of a rapidly changing professional landscape.
🔹 Bridging Gaps Between Theory and Practice: Emphasizing actionable strategies, I shared methods for translating academic knowledge into skills that resonate in professional contexts.
🔹 Building Career Resilience: Together, we examined tools and resources that can help aspiring translators and interpreters navigate industry challenges and position themselves for long-term success.
🌱 Engagement and Exchange
What made this event truly memorable was the enthusiasm and active participation from attendees. The open discussions and interactive activities—such as case study analyses and collaborative problem-solving—highlighted the collective commitment to professional growth. The diversity of perspectives enriched the conversation, offering a deeper understanding of the multifaceted nature of employability in these fields.
